A sea side paradise on earth!
Paleokastritsa is located on the northwest coast of Corfu, about 25 km from the airport and form the island’s capital, Corfu town. Paleokastritsa is being recognized as one of the most beautiful landscapes in Corfu and has been one of the most photographed place as well as being part of films/movies shot from the famous monastery. Olives and citrus trees grow right the way down the hilly coastline, almost touching the deep blue sparkling Mediterranean Sea.
Nightlife in Paleokastritsa is fair enough, when you are not a party “animal”. Lots of tavernas and restaurants, caffes and night bar, karaoke and greek nights.
Each year in Paleokastritsa, one of the main highlights of the summer takes place in August. This day of celebration starts with services in the small church of Agios Spiridon, culminates in the varkarola which is held in the evening. The evening starts with a parade from the Marina area towards the Monastery, led by cheerleaders accompanied by the local band. After this, all the action takes place on the beach where is usually raised a platform, bars and food stalls. There is a display of local Corfiot dances performed by the Krini dance group in their traditional costumes. There is also a performance by the local Lakones choir who often arrive by torch-lit boat. The highlight of the evening takes place once darkness has completely fallen and is a re-enactment of Odysseus battle with Poseidon and his subsequent discovery by Nausika. To complete the pageant the local council lays on a fantastic firework display that has everyone enthralled. After the end of the show, it is time to dance the night away at a Beach party.
